If you live in a Hard Water area, then you will no doubt have a limescale problem in your kettle. This drastically reduces its efficiency. It’s the kettle equivalent of never defrosting your freezer, or not servicing your car every 10,000 miles…

A simple non-toxic and chemical-free way to descale it is to use equal quantities of white vinegar mixed with water.

Leave it COLD in the kettle for 30-90 mins and then just pour away.
Then boil a normal amount of water, and pour that away (or use it to wash your dishes) Your kettle should now be de-scaled.
If the first application has not worked, then repeat as required. Now you will have a more efficient kettle, and you get your tea or coffee quicker!

Your fridge is an essential electrical appliance and is switched on for the full 365 days a year. So it contributes every day to your electricity bill.

It uses more electricity if it’s not in good condition – for example if the condenser coils at the back of the fridge are very dusty the energy consumption of the fridge can increase by up to 30 per cent!

So try pulling out your fridge and giving the condenser coils a dusting or vacuuming to improve the efficiency of your fridge and reducing your electricity bill – easy!

Ever get that crunching sound when you open your freezer or have to dig your way through ‘snow’ to find stuff?

A build up of frost in the freezer restricts the airflow of the cold air and makes it work harder. Regularly defrosting your freezer can massively improve its efficiency.
So save your electric bill and Make your freezer last longer by keeping it in tip top health and Defrosting it.

A full freezer uses less energy than a half empty one because the freezer has to keep cooling the air in the spaces. So if you’ve discarded loads of stuff while defrosting, fill the gaps with scrunched up plastic bags – or bags filled with light polystyrene chips. It’ll also help to slow down the icing up again…
