Egg People!
(See Easter Newsletter for images)
These are cute and fun, but can be practical too if you use them to start off seedlings before planting out.
They also look interesting if you display them in a moss lined basket or on a window sill, or in their egg box.
You need:
A clean eggshell with just the top broken off
Some potting soil
Grass, wheat or rye seed
Some Cardboard (e.g. cereal box)
Scissors, Glue or tape
Markers – optional
- Tape or glue a small square of cardboard under the egg to make a base. Or make a ring egg-holder from a long strip of it
- Use a small spoon to fill the egg almost to the top with potting soil.
- Sprinkle the soil with seed.
- Add a thin layer of potting soil on the top.
- Carefully water so as not to overflow or soak it.
- Keep in a sunny location.
Your seeds will begin to sprout in a day or two and your egghead will grow “hair” in about a week!
If you like, you can decorate the outside of the egg with marker
If you have cats, wheat seed grows thick wheat grass and is a tasty and nutritional addition to their diet. It also aids in food digestion!
